March 2020 Ogdensburg Oddities

I had been wanting to go back to Watertown, NY for a while.  I started googling for restaurants near Fort Drum and I found L&L Hawaiian BBQ on the map.

This is the chicken katsu plate lunch.  Huge portion.  Looks delicious.  Unfortunately the chicken tasted bad - the oil in the deep fryer hasn't been changed in 2 billion years, maybe.

The mystery oreos smelled like snickerdoodles.  Some other people described the taste as vanilla frosting from a can.  I did not like the cinnamon coke.

Two new buffalo hot wing flavoured items, chips and popcorn.

Betty Crocker Brittle Mix. I did not make any yet but I have read that Duncan Hines copied this also.

January 2018 Ogdensburg Oddities

The famous tomato pie from Utica, NY.  It is like a french bread with tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese on it. OK but nothing super exciting.

March 2017 local items

Mozarella 'n marinara ruffles - tastes like all the other cheesy type ones.

Country harvest Harvest Bakes - tastes like a dry, dusty, flattened blueberry bagel, sort of.

Festival cookies are from Colombia. Too bland

New flavours of Ruffles potato chips, PC Heat & Go, Pogo, Sweet Tea

I brought these to work for the monthly pub quiz.  People were freaked out.  They really do taste like the Harvey's burger "meat".

Ruffles Cheesy Quesadilla.  Kind of like cheese but a tiny bit spicy.  Wouldn't buy it again.

President's Choice Heat & Go Chicken & Mushroom pies.  I bought these out of curiosity from Your Independent Grocer and ate one. It was disgusting.  Somehow it is like a dry chicken pot pie that tastes a bit like cheese.  Avoid.

I think I got this 2 pack of Pogos from Food Basics.  I hadn't eaten a corn dog in decades so I gave one a try. Inedible.  Greasy, congealed mystery meat.  Avoid!

I keep craving American style sweet tea so I made my own from a youtube video recipe and I poured it into this water bottle.  Success!  I've been drinking it all week and it tastes just like the real thing!

I brought a bag like this of Orville Redenbacher's candy cane flavoured popcorn to work.  Only one coworker really liked it.  The rest of us made "that face" after trying it.  GROSS!

Kettle Brand Red Curry Potato Chips - they taste nothing like Thai red curry

Betty Crocker Pineapple Upside-Down cake mix - it actually had a small can of crushed pineapple in the box!  I thought it tasted gross but Mother liked it!

Ruffles Poutine chips - yuck

I got these last week in Costco out of curiosity. OMG they were disgusting.  I haven't tried Krispy Kreme donuts too many times since they only sell cold ones here sometimes.  From what I remember, a hot one is good.. But these were really bad - with each bite I had a feeling of eating lard or something meaty.  Very very greasy. 

This made me lol in Walmart.  The lady sucking back the sandwich.. right beside those creepy footlong frankfurters.

It's that time of year.. I made a Jell-O cake for the strawberry social party at work.

I got these in Mac's convenience store, klondike mint and banana taffy.  Did not try them yet. I left them in my cubicle for coworkers to sample.

Finally I tried a sandwich from Franks Bakery and Catering.  This is #11 White Girl. It took me all day and I didn't finish it. Huge portion size but very fresh.  It had lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard but you can't tell that from this pic.
