I found this bizarre salami in Superstore with walnuts in it.

I asked my coworker what does CEP mean in Turkish.  He said pocket.  You can keep this box of almonds & dried cranberries in your pocket.

September 2018 local items

President's Choice has come out with weirdly flavoured pizzas. I didn't try this one because my brother ate it.

Brett's Ice Cream in Kanata North.  You can't go inside.  You just order at the window.  I had a chocolate shake which tasted good but was too small relative to the high price.

Walmart snacks: English bonbons and Sizzlin Sweet & Sour Pringles (tastes like General Tao)

I went to check out a new Chinese/French bakery called Oui8.  It has very short hours so I was lucky to get in before closing time.  This random assortment (5 items) was around $20 or $25. WTF. I won't be going back there, based on price and taste.  The 3 items I tasted so far were substandard (not enough sugar and wrong texture).  I suspect the chef is putting her own spin instead of using Candian-style recipes.

Finally I also tried the "Fruity Cone" from Chocolats Favoris new Kanata location.  It was waffle cone with chocolate ice cream, fresh strawberries and liquid milk chocolate on top which hardened on the drive home.

July 2018 local items

Finally we went to check out Marche Adonis, a middle-Eastern superstore in Gatineau. My Egyptian coworker always mentioned going to a location in Montreal.  It was his favourite store, so I had to check it out.  It is not as wild and crazy as T&T in terms of ethnic stores. It is a large store but a lot of the stuff inside is not exotic because this chain is owned by Metro.  There are many counters selling the weird stuff, but you have to ask for them (cheese, meat, nuts, olives, baked meat pies, etc.)  I was a bit nervous to practise my French so I stuck with the stuff that was already packaged.

I got my coworkers some loukoum and candies from France.  I will definitely go back and try asking for stuff.  Their spinach pies were just fine.

These chips just tasted like BBQ

This was absolutely disgusting. It didn't taste like cheese. It didn't look like  the picture.  The "ground beef" was like a liquid.

Went to Luna Crepes & Cafe with ex-coworker friends.  This croissant with egg and cheese was OK but the new family running the place hid the spoons, napkins, straws, and ketchup, and my gelato was tasteless.

This popcorn was flavourless

This orange coke was gross.  Kind of like vanilla.  Couldn't taste the orange.

Nice guy Dave gave me these Malaysian snacks for babysitting his guinea pig. One of the cookies was BBQ pork flavour!

I found this recipe online for lemon butter garlic chicken.  Holy cow, it was a keto or paleo recipe that used 1 stick of butter and 1/2 cup oil.  I left out the oil but the butter was disgusting.  I threw it out.

New flavours of Ruffles potato chips, PC Heat & Go, Pogo, Sweet Tea

I brought these to work for the monthly pub quiz.  People were freaked out.  They really do taste like the Harvey's burger "meat".

Ruffles Cheesy Quesadilla.  Kind of like cheese but a tiny bit spicy.  Wouldn't buy it again.

President's Choice Heat & Go Chicken & Mushroom pies.  I bought these out of curiosity from Your Independent Grocer and ate one. It was disgusting.  Somehow it is like a dry chicken pot pie that tastes a bit like cheese.  Avoid.

I think I got this 2 pack of Pogos from Food Basics.  I hadn't eaten a corn dog in decades so I gave one a try. Inedible.  Greasy, congealed mystery meat.  Avoid!

I keep craving American style sweet tea so I made my own from a youtube video recipe and I poured it into this water bottle.  Success!  I've been drinking it all week and it tastes just like the real thing!

I brought a bag like this of Orville Redenbacher's candy cane flavoured popcorn to work.  Only one coworker really liked it.  The rest of us made "that face" after trying it.  GROSS!

Oatmeal battle

Fall is here. It's time to start eating oatmeal to keep warm.

President's Choice Steel Cut Oats: you are supposed to boil for 20 minutes.  Who's got time for that?

Quake Steel Cut: Got it in Ogdensburg, NY.  The taste is way too strong.  Thumbs down!

Chex Oatmeal: This one is really good!  Way more apple chunks than Quaker.

I got this Quaker oatmeal last year in Ogdensburg, NY.  It tastes pretty chemicalish.

Engagement chicken in 2013

If you like to hate Wigward, like I do, you'll know about his wife's "famous recipes". One of them is marshmallow salad, and the other is to bake a chicken with lemons and call it Engagement Chicken. I tried to make it in a crockpot at first - as you can see, it did not brown.  So I had to put it in the oven eventually. Actually it did taste good, no thanks to HER!

Thanksgiving 2013

If you know me, you know I hate Galen Weston, junior billionaire overlord of Loblaws grocery stores.  Back in 2013 the company came out with a whole bunch of products based on the President's Choice chocolate chip cookies.  I don't think I tried this chocolate soda. 

Here is another one, a chocolate bar with chunks of their cookies in it.  Note that the bar does not mention milk chocolate or dark chocolate or how much cocoa.
