March 2020 Ogdensburg Oddities

I had been wanting to go back to Watertown, NY for a while.  I started googling for restaurants near Fort Drum and I found L&L Hawaiian BBQ on the map.

This is the chicken katsu plate lunch.  Huge portion.  Looks delicious.  Unfortunately the chicken tasted bad - the oil in the deep fryer hasn't been changed in 2 billion years, maybe.

I got these mysterious Baru nuts at costco.  They tasted a lot to me like burned peanuts and they were not worth $17

Ben & Jerry Chocolate Shake it Truffles - it was OK but too bland. It really did taste like a chocolate shake.

June 2019 Ogdensburg Oddities

I got the vegetables at Texas Roadhouse.  Except for the carrots, everything was really salty and oily.

Throwback Chef Boy-Ar-Dee

Mercer's The Finest Ice Cream - not so good.  It got a little melted and all the ice cream closest to the sides of the box turned into inedible hardened foam

Herr's Smokehouse Maple and Poppables.  Both were OK.

A lot of Bang energy drinks for gym friends

May 2019 local items

I like the red stuff better than other fillings such as caramel or chocolate sauce

Cheese & Onion and Spicy Cheddar.  Both tasted pretty much the same.  They're not making any effort at the Lay's idea factory.

I bought this KitKat at Sobeys for the rip off  price of $1.99 and it was horrible.  The girl at the gas station had told me that it tasted more like brown chocolate than white chocolate, but it did not.  It's like white chocolate, slightly sour taste and burns the back of your mouth.  YUCK

I got C4 at Popeye's.  It is like Gatorade powder but sugar free and with caffeine.

March 2019 Ogdensburg Oddities

The new Lay's flavours seem odd

New M&Ms flavours and new Peeps flavours and Dippin' Dots cereal

Cadbury Shimmer mini eggs, Hershey's mini bunnies

Easter Egg Oreo, Yoplait Dunkin' Donuts flavoured yogurts

Aug 2018 Ogdensburg Oddities

Donuts were bland but at least individually wrapped

We had to throw out the potato salad without eating it.  The muffin mix was crumbly!

Nilla Banana Pudding cereal tasted like corn pops plus fake banana extract

I could only find these two of the new Lay's flavours.  The bacon wrapped jalapeno popper was bland and the Chesapeake Bay crab spice tasted like celery.

These popcorn balls were $0.50 each.  No flavour other than sugar.  Would not buy again.

Graeter's ice cream came in a fancy container but it tasted like non-gourmet ice cream

August 2018 local items

We checked out a food truck in Stittsville called Crave Tacos.  They were all colourful and weird.  The one on the left was cauliflower, which turned out to be Indian curry with chick peas and beans.  The one on the right was mahi mahi, which was OK except I didn't like the sauce (cayenne pepper in it).

We paid a visit to Crossroads Tearoom in  Perth, ON.  Here's the sandwich tower.

Only bad thing about this place was these scones which were half baked.  Mostly raw dough.

Here are Simpsons tic tacs.  Marge tasted OK but Bart & Homer were not good.

The new flavours of Lay's chips are: pizza, grilled cheese and taco.  Coincidentally pizza tasted the best and taco was the worst so they are lined up correctly in this photo.

April 2018 Ogdensburg Oddities

This Blue Bunny ice cream cup was pretty lame (flavourless with gross chunks of "fudge").  It gave me "issues".

These Tate's Bake Shop cookies were just fine.

Albanese gummy worms and Lay's Munchies cheese fix.  The worms tasted fresher than the usual ones we can buy here.

In search of NYC style pizza, we went to Cam's pizzeria, a new restaurant in Ogdensburg.  It has several locations in upstate NY.  The flavoured cokes were disappointing.  Somehow adding peach or raspberry to the coke made it taste not like coke at all.  The pizza was also not so good (not zesty or saucy enough).  The rainbow cookies were delicious (almondy).  The black & white cookie was stale.

Pizza rolls or logs from Cam's pizzeria.  They were OK.  Like egg roll wrappers with cheese, tomato sauce and pepperoni inside.  This is also popular in upstate NY only.

Nathan's Authentic Philly Beef Cheesesteak Sandwich

I bought this pizza out of curiosity, but it is not authentic at all. It was a whole wheat crust with just oozy cheese liquid inside (no tomato, no pepperoni, no other toppings)
